Ling Yang is China Editor for Mergermarket, a global news intelligence service for advisors, private equity firms and corporates. She heads a team of dedicated specialists across China to cover corporate growth strategies, M&A deals, PE buyouts, cross-border M&A intelligence, as well as data-backed analysis and trend pieces.
Ling has been an investigative M&A reporter for 12 years with a special focus on private equity coverage. She was the head of consumer and retail coverage for APAC with Mergermarket. She joined Mergermarket in Hong Kong in 2011 before moving to Shanghai in 2016.
James Jin is a Managing Partner of Ventech China, together with Eric Huet, they lead Ventech China invest in Internet, consumer finance, fin-tech and big data.
Before joining Ventech China, in 2005, James co-founded the CMHJ Partners, anchored by China Merchant Group, focusing on investing in high-tech start-ups. Prior to that, James was the general manager of a Silicon Valley based start-up, which later on was acquired by a Private Equity Fund.
Before going to the US, he was responsible for marketing & sales of five operating departments at Eastman Kodak China.
James is the guest professor of Nanyang Technological University. He holds an M.B.A. degree of the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, as well as the Master of Science degree in Computer Science, California State University
Rafael Ratzel has been an integral part of TH Capital (华控基金) in Beijing since 2016, spearheading the firm's international initiatives as the head of TH Capital International. His strategic leadership resulted in the successful establishment of the firm’s inaugural USD Fund in 2023, extending opportunities for international investors to access growth capital investments in Chinese high-tech sectors. The international team at TH Capital also supports portfolio companies in introducing innovative Chinese technologies to a global customer base.
Before his tenure at TH Capital, he held several operational roles at Siemens and Bosch in Europe and as a consultant with Roland Berger in Beijing. He further enhanced his cross-border investment expertise at CMIG Investments in Shanghai.
Rafael holds dual degrees in Engineering (Industrial and Systems Engineering) and Business Administration (Management) from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has also acquired MBA degrees from Tsinghua University in Beijing and the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
His strategic insight and leadership are also recognized in his role as a board member of the German family office and industrial holding group AEQUITA.
Jui Tan is the Managing Partner of Lanchi Ventures (formally known as BlueRun Ventures China). He joined BlueRun Ventures US in 2001 and founded the China team in 2005. With over 20 years of venture capital experience, Jui has been recognized among the top 100 venture capitalists worldwide by Forbes Midas List and as the No.1 early-stage investor in China by Zero2IPO. He has been also named as a top venture capitalist and early-stage investor in China by ChinaVenture, Forbes China, and 36Kr.
Jui is an active early-stage investor in cloud native, transportation and smart machine technology, and digital healthcare. Prior to joining the firm, Jui held various management positions within Singapore Telecom, most recently served as a Director of Global Service Development, responsible for SingTel's managed data and voice services globally. Prior to this, he held engineering management positions at IBM, focusing on computing and networking systems.
Jui received his B.S. in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and M.B.A. from the International Institute of Management Development (IMD) in Switzerland.
Michael Zhang is the Co-Founder and Managing Partner at BA Capital. Michael has over 15 years of early stage and private equity investment experience. Prior to co-founding BA Capital, Michael worked at Eight Roads Ventures, the proprietary investment arm of Fidelity International. Previously, he was an investment professional at Orchid Asia where his focus was on consumer goods and services. Michael started his career at Deloitte.
BA Capital is a consumer-focused investor in China, specializing in brands investment. It targets all growth stage consumer business. Since 2016, BA Capital has supported companies such as Pop Mart (9992.HK), Helen’s (9869.HK), Giant Biogene (2367.HK), Hey Tea, Genki Forest, Jovo/Jiang Xiao Bai, Long Time Ago BBQ and M Stand Coffee. The team currently manages 3 RMB funds and 1 USD fund.
Michael received a Bachelor of Accounting from Texas A&M University.
