David has spent more than a decade working closely with VC/PE funds and high-growth technology companies on a variety of matters, including cross-border equity and debt financings, buy-side and sell-side acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate restructurings, board fiduciary matters and general corporate governance. During this time, David has advised on hundreds of successful venture and growth equity transactions and has led negotiations involving investors and management teams based in the US, India, China, the Middle East, Africa, the UK/European Union, Australia and all across Southeast Asia.
David was recognized by The Legal 500 as a “Next Generation Partner” in the Startup and Venture Capital – Foreign Firms in Singapore category. He is recognized by Chambers and Partners and was named on the India Business Law Journal’s A-List as one of the top 100 India-focused lawyers at international law firms. David also was named on Asian Legal Business’ list of Asia’s 40 Under 40 Lawyers for 2022, which recognizes the top young lawyers from international and domestic firms across Greater China, South Korea, Japan, Southeast Asia and India. Recently, David spoke at the 2025 Harvard Asia Business Conference and was invited back on the “BRAVE Southeast Asia Tech” podcast to share insights on key developments in the region’s tech ecosystem.
Before joining Cooley, David was a partner at another US-based international law firm and previously practiced at firms in Silicon Valley and New York. David received his JD from Columbia Law School, where he served as the chief articles editor of the Columbia Business Law Review. He received his BS in applied economics and management from Cornell University.
David is a native English speaker and fluent in Mandarin. He is a member of the State Bars of California and New York.
Kun (Jason) Zhang is the Managing Partner of Fortera Capital, overseeing the firm’s comprehensive investment platform with nearly RMB 40 Billion(AUM). Shanghai Fortera Capital Co., Ltd. (Fortera Capital) is a leading private equity investment company in China, with diversified strategic shareholdings from prominent industry conglomerates and investment institutions.
With over two decades of experience in the finance and investment industry, Mr. Zhang has held a number of senior leadership roles. He previously served as Managing Director and Investment Committee Member at CDB-GLP Capital (established by China Development Bank and GLP), where he was responsible for building the investment team and shaping the fund’s strategy and execution framework. Prior to that, he was Managing Director and Investment Committee member at Prax Capital, a U.S.-dollar denominated fund based in Shanghai, leading several high-profile investments. Earlier in his career, he served as Vice President in the Investment Department of ICBC International.
Mr. Zhang holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Shanghai International Studies University.

Mr. Steven Wang is Founder & CEO of HLC and a visiting professor of Tsinghua University. He has over 20 years of experience in industry and investment, focuses exclusively on healthcare services, medical device and pharmaceutical sectors. Before founding HLC, he is former senior partner and investment committee member of CDH. Prior to CDH, Mr. Wang served at Avenue Capital, Lehman Brothers (London) and Becton Dickinson Group. Over the last ten years, Mr. Wang was responsible for transactions totaling more than 1.5 billion dollars, including mergers & acquisitions, restructuring of publicly listed companies, growth and early stage investments.
Some of Mr. Wang's representative deals include Mindray, Wuxi, Tigermed, Phamaron, Yuwell, United Imaging, Brightgene, Genetron Health, STA, Sansure Biotech, Smoore, Zentalis, Imago, Viva and more.
Jing Shi has over 20 years of experience in venture capital and private equity buyout, with a focus on investment execution and portfolio management. In his earlier career, he worked as a strategy consultant and was an entrepreneur who created a number of startups. He specialises in deep tech, technology, media and telecommunications (TMT), consumer, and industrials in the APAC region, especially in Greater China, SEA and Japan.
Mr. Ian Zhu is a founding member of NIO Capital and played a key role in building the firm’s investment team, setting up its venture and growth funds, and establishing its operations. His investment focus includes smart electric vehicles, low carbon energy networks, mobility and logistics services and manufacturing innovations. He led NIO Capital’s investments in CATL (SZSE: 300750), Ronbay (SHSE: 688005), TUHU (HK:9690), Momenta, Pony.ai(PONY.US), Newlinks Technology, Inceptio Technology, Black Sesame Technologies(HK:2533), TrunkTech, Seyond, BoCloud, among others.
Mr. Zhu has extensive experience in investment, fund management and business management. Prior to joining NIO Capital, he was a Managing Partner and Investment Committee member of Tsing Capital, where he led investments in Lucid (LCID:NASDAQ), Jing-Jin Electric (SHSE: 688280) and Horizon Robotics. Ian also worked in both start-ups and large technology companies like AT&T, where he managed diverse functions, including sales, business development, engineering and R&D.
Mr. Zhu holds a master’s degree in business administration from Stanford Graduate School of Business and dual bachelor’s degrees in physics and economics from Peking University.
