Derek Poon is a partner in Baker McKenzie's Hong Kong office and a member of the Firm's Private Equity and Mergers & Acquisitions practice groups. He is also the head of Baker McKenzie's Asia Pacific Private Equity Group and a member of the Global Private Equity Steering Committee. Derek has extensive experience representing private equity firms, investment banks, and major corporations on a wide variety of corporate matters, including public and private mergers and acquisitions, private equity, joint ventures, real estate private equity, and distressed M&A transactions. Earlier in his career, Derek spent time on client secondment with Bain Capital with the Asia Private Equity team. Derek is recognized as a "Leading Individual" by Legal 500 Asia Pacific for Private Equity, "Up and Coming" lawyer by Chambers Greater China for Private Equity, and "Highly Regarded" in M&A and Private Equity by IFLR1000.
Practice Focus Qualified in the US, Hong Kong, UK, and Australia, Derek has worked on several significant transactions in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, India, Australia, ASEAN countries, as well as on outbound deals into Europe and North America.
Nick Thorn is a Managing Director in the Client Relations and Capital Raising team at EQT. Prior to joining BPEA, Nick worked within the private equity fund placement team at Campbell Lutyens in both London and Hong Kong, where he raised multiple funds for Asian private equity firms across the region.
Alex is a Managing Director at PEP and member of the Partner & Client Group. Alex joined PEP in 2011. Alex was an investor in the Private Equity strategy for the first decade, after which he joined the Partner & Client Group. Before joining PEP, Alex was an investment banker with Morgan Stanley in London and prior to then, a management consultant with The Boston Consulting Group in Sydney. Alex received a PLD from Harvard Business School, a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Adelaide, where he was the Valedictorian.
Mr. Singh leads investor relations for PAG Private Equity, based in Singapore. Previously, he led investor relations for True North (India) and spent nine years at KKR in Hong Kong with a focus on fundraising and capital markets activities in Asia. Mr. Singh started his career with Goldman Sachs investment banking (IBD) in Singapore and holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from BITS Pilani and a master’s degree in engineering management from Duke University.
Paul Mace serves as Managing Director focusing on private equity (buyouts, venture capital, and real estate). Prior to joining the Investment Office in 2023, Mr. Mace was a Director of Investments at Tufts University Investment Office. Before he was at Tufts, he was a Senior Associate at Regent Associates International. Mr. Mace holds his M.B.A. from the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College and his B.S. in Business Administration from Trinity University. He is also a CFA charterholder.
