Fireside chat: Green hydrogen – the future of energy exports?
Green hydrogen projects are growing at a rapid speed in LAC, not only in Chile, but also in Brazil, Colombia and Uruguay, chiefly targeting large-scale international exports. Among Latin America’s biggest projects include the USD 8.4bn Pampas green hydrogen facility planned for the Rio Negro province in Argentina, projecting to export by 2027. However, supply chain dependency and resiliency may affect Latin America’s ability to export to Europe, Asia and the USA. This panel will discuss:
- What is the pipeline for new green hydrogen projects? Where is investment being sourced from?
- What are the issues in supply chain resiliency and the macro-economic outlook for importers?
- How has the war in Ukraine affected prospects for exporting green hydrogen and ammonia to Europe?
- What ancillary infrastructure does LAC need to overcome to become the global green hydrogen exporter?

European Energy is currently constructing the world largest commercial E-methanol Power-to-X plant in Denmark.
Work history: 15 years international experience in O&G in various roles from technical to Development Manager of large scale O&G projects.
Alejandro spent the majority of the past 14 years working in the mining and renewable energy sectors in private equity, investment banking, and corporate development roles. When he first learned about how hydrogen could serve as a critical piece of the broader clean energy transition, he was instantly captivated. He soon realized that not only could clean hydrogen help decarbonize areas such as the fertilizer and transportation sectors, but it could also serve as a solution to renewable energy’s intermittency, by storing electrons, and linking clean energy supply and demand centers, by serving as an energy carrier. He now leads Hy24’s investment opportunities in the Americas that is investing in clean hydrogen to advance the energy transition
Carlos is Managing Partner of Latin America for Finergreen, an international financial advisory boutique specialized in the renewable energy sector (Solar, Wind, Hydro, Biomass and Storage).
The company has completed €2.1 billion of transactions representing more than 6 GW of assets. With a team of 50+ people based in Paris, Madrid, Budapest, Dubai, Singapore, Mexico, Abidjan and Nairobi, the company operates through three main segments: Mergers & Acquisitions, Project Finance and Strategic Advisory
