This panel convenes prominent Limited Partners to explore their evolving role in the infrastructure and energy finance market. We delve into the evolving strategies LPs are employing, considering direct investment vs fund participation, and the merits and challenges of LPs directly investing in projects alongside traditional fund participation models. Fundraising was hit and miss for many asset managers last year but the growing significance of co-investments and secondary market transactions as alternative investment vehicles for LPs demonstrates a new dynamism in the hunt for returns.

Vittorio Lacagnina is a Partner in the Institutional Client Group at Apollo where he leads product development for Sustainability & Infrastructure and serves as a member of the Infrastructure Investment Committee.
Prior to joining Apollo in 2022, Vittorio was Head of Business Development, Private Infrastructure at Partners Group. Vittorio has 26 years of industry experience across a variety of senior investment, advisory and capital formation roles.
Vittorio began his career in the Investment Banking Division of Goldman Sachs where he acquired relevant transaction and coverage expertise across the Americas and Europe.
Vittorio graduated with a first-class BA (Hons) in international business from the European Business School, London.
Vittorio is a Member of the Board of Governors of Ocean Exchange, whose mission is to accelerate the adoption of innovative solutions for a sustainable blue economy. He is also a supporter of Glasswing International involved in Youth Development, Community Empowerment and Trauma-Informed Care in Central America.
Paul is a Partner in Pantheon’s Global Infrastructure and Real Assets Investment Team. He previously worked at GIC, from 2012, where he was Senior Vice President, Infrastructure with a global remit focussing on primary, secondary and co-investment opportunities. Paul also has expertise in infrastructure direct investing and infrastructure debt transactions. Prior to GIC, Paul worked at Challenger Infrastructure and Macquarie Capital. Paul studied Business at the University of Edinburgh. He is also a CFA Charterholder, a Chartered Accountant, and a Member of the Securities Institute. Paul is based in San Francisco.
Taylor is a Principal based in the firm’s Toronto office where he is responsible for originating, evaluating and executing direct, secondary and primary fund investment opportunities. Prior to joining Hamilton Lane in 2023, Taylor was a Vice President with Instar Asset Management where he focused on middle market infrastructure and private equity investments. Taylor began his career at Macquarie Capital Markets Canada. Taylor received an Honors Bachelor of Commerce from Queen’s University.
John Anderson is a 30+ year infrastructure investor, including 22 years as a leader of the John Hancock / Manulife global infrastructure investing program. His career includes deep infrastructure investing experience across North America, complemented by meaningful experience in developed and emerging Europe, Latin America, and Asia/Pacific.
John is President of the Manulife Infrastructure Funds, and chairs their investment committee for Infrastructure Equity investments, including their direct investing program in the US, and Manulife’s global fund and co-invest program. Manulife’s global Infrastructure Debt lending program also reports to John.
John recently concluded a three-year term as chair of the PRI investor advisory group for Infrastructure and continues to serve as a member of that advisory group.
John is a member of Manulife’s global Investment Committee and the company's Global Leadership Team. Manulife is a global life insurer with 35,000 employees across Canada, the US, and East Asia and a $300 billion portfolio. John has served as an executive sponsor of Manulife’s veteran’s club in the US, and a leader with Employee Resource Groups helping gender and racial diversity flourish at the company.
Mr. Anderson holds an MBA from Georgetown University and received his BA in Economics from The University of Chicago. He speaks French, Serbo-Croatian, German, Spanish, and Russian at an intermediate level, and would not be mistaken for a native speaker in any of these languages.
Jillian is a Partner in our Projects, Energy, Natural Resources and Infrastructure (PENRI) group and head of the U.S. China Group in the New York office. Jillian has significant experience representing investors, sponsors, developers and lenders on the acquisition, financing and development of major projects around the world in a wide range of sectors, including all aspects of energy transition (including carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), hydrogen, EV and renewables), transportation (including airports, rail, ports and roads), power generation and distribution and water. She also has extensive experience advising on the structuring, formation, marketing and financing of private investment funds in the infrastructure, energy, real estate and mining sectors, including representing lenders and funds on subscription line, NAV and hybrid financings for funds. Chambers USA 2023 has ranked Jillian at Band 4 in the PPP market.
As head of the U.S. China Group, Jillian has particular experience advising Chinese clients on their projects in the Americas, and advising US clients on transactions related to China, in close coordination with Allen & Overy’s China offices.
Jillian attended both Harvard College and Harvard Law School, graduating with honors of summa cum laude and magna cum laude. Jillian is fluent in Mandarin.
