The changing face of private equity activity in Germany
The German private equity landscape is undergoing transformation, with family offices increasingly stepping into roles traditionally held by PE funds. This shift comes at a time when Germany continues to navigate its complex relationship with private equity, convincing aging business owners to partner with financial buyer. According to PwC, PE firms struggled to find exits in 2024 and are holding record dry powder but there is huge optimism that 2025 will prove to be a bumper year for German PE dealmaking. Giovanna is a Partner and Head of DACH at Altor Equity Partners. She focuses on mid-market investments in the Industrial and Business Services segments in the DACH region. Prior to joining Altor in 2018, she spent nearly 10 years at 3i in Germany. Giovanna started her career in M&A at Morgan Stanley and strategy consulting at McKinsey & Company in Frankfurt and London. Among her investments for Altor are Kaefer (family owned global insulation services business) and VTU (life science engineering business). Giovanna is engaged with Level20 (promotion of female investors in PE) and Invest Europe (Member of Mid Market Council).
Jan-Daniel Neumann is Co-Founder, a Partner and an Investment Committee member at BU. Before joining BU, he served as a Managing Director at Brockhaus Private Equity in Frankfurt, as a Principal at General Atlantic in London and Düsseldorf, as an Associate at Goldman Sachs in Frankfurt and as a Sales Associate at Shanghai East Gate Consulting in Shanghai. Jan-Daniel has a Diploma degree from WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management in Koblenz.
Dr. Jochen Brellochs is Partner at DPE, focussing on the lower mid-market, sustainability and technology. He has been a private equity investor for over 16 years, prior to DPE as Co-Founder/Partner of an investment company and at Gimv. He has accompanied numerous transactions and actively supported companies as a member of various non-executive boards. Dr. Jochen Brellochs studied business administration at the University of Mannheim and completed his doctorate in corporate governance at the Technical University of Berlin.
Elena joined the Transaction Services team at PwC Frankfurt in 2011 and has focused exclusively on private equity M&A ever since. Since 2018, she has been responsible for client engagement and business development for the private equity industry and key private equity accounts. She leads PwC's private equity business development efforts in Germany as well as across the EMEA region. Elena is fluent in German and English, and holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a Master's degree in Finance
Marius Buxkämper is Investment Director at Ufenau Capital Partners. He has 12 years of experience in private equity and a further 4 years in leveraged finance. Marius Buxkämper supports the investments on an operational level as well as the investment team in the execution of transactions. Before joining Ufenau Capital Partners, Marius Buxkämper was part of the investment team at ECM Equity Capital Management in Frankfurt am Main, where he was responsible for investments in the D/A/CH region. Prior to that, he worked for Deutsche Bank AG and GE Capital, where he advised Mid-sized companies and private equity funds on (acquisition) financing.
