Opening Panel: Deal drivers and challenges affecting M&A activity

Global M&A continued its recovery in the first half of 2024. In EMEA, deal value rose by 33% to USD 438bn compared to the same period in 2023. The return of big-ticket deals, a recovery of buyout activity and higher appetite for inbound dealmaking are signs that M&A in the region is on mend and that sellers’ and buyers’ expectations are starting to align. Kicking off the session with audience polling on what are the key deal drivers, challenges and opportunities, the panel then will discuss the results and share their own opinions on the topic as well as what are the key factors to value creation. Speakers will discuss:

  • Will stabilising markets, lowering interest rates and inflation , pent up demand, dry capital act as deal drivers? What other factors could give dealmakers confidence to engage in M&A?
  • How are dealmakers coping with the challenges of the cost of capital, the funding environment, geopolitical uncertainty against the backdrop of war and conflict, upcoming elections / new governments and the regulatory environment?
  • What are the greatest opportunities out there and how can you capitalise on them?
  • In a challenging and competitive market, what strategies are being employed to create true value through M&A?
