Welcome to This Week on Mergermarket, your essential highlights from our M&A news & analysis.
With 171 deals added to our databases in the last week to Wednesday, it’s some of the larger situations that are setting the market tone – from Adobe’s drawn-out Figma antitrust clearance timetable to Intrado’s USD2.4bn safety unit carve out landing after its sale process stalled over the summer.
And with the fourth quarter looming large, chatter is already turning to how this year’s backlog of M&A and private equity-backed IPO exits will work their way through the pipeline in 2023.
In the US, we have selected our top five active processes from our pipeline of upcoming transactions curated by Manu Rajput. The deals lining up include Fresh Del Monte Produce and The Lycra Company.
Final bids were being collected for Cobham Advanced Electronic Solutions' space business with strategics interested in the asset, wrote Richard Tekneci and Kezia Joseph.
Last week, Kevin Ketcham and Kevin McCaffre gave a fast reaction to Adobe’s largest ever deal, its USD 20bn swoop on software firm Figma, noting the announcement’s wiggle room on timing could signal lengthy antitrust procedures ahead.
Talking of chunky transactions, Charlie Taylor-Kroll and Santosh Shetty analysed how Deutsche Telekom’s EUR 10bn tower company deal from July triggered bankers' hopes of the next TMT mega deal in EMEA.
In Asia, the huge depreciation in the Japanese yen has been spurring sponsor activity in the country, writes Anjali Piramal. Meanwhile Likha Cuevas and Ryuya Shiga write that Japanese trading house Marubeni is seeking a joint venture partner for South East Asia buyout fund.
Conference season is also in full swing, with many of our reporters in the field meeting sources and attending events this week. From our own Mergermarket M&A Forum in Chicago, highlights included a keynote interview with Citi's Co-Head of Global M&A Cary Kochman and a panel exploring how M&A can drive digitization strategies.
I hope you enjoy this week’s briefing, and would love to hear your feedback, deal tips and suggestions.
