The Annual Mergermarket M&A Forum Japan successfully took place in Tokyo and online on 25 June 2024.

The event brought together over 650 M&A professionals including 200+ corporates representing 385+ different organisations from 20 geographies. The conference, which focused on the investment themes and economic trends that will drive Japanese M&A in the next 12 months and sectors in the region that are most attractive to overseas dealmakers, featured a keynote presentation from Masashi Nakamura, Representative Director and Chief Executive Officer, Head of Investment Advisory, Head of Venture Growth Investments at JAPAN POST INVESTMENT CORPORATION and Naoki Otani, Executive Officer, Head of Buyout Investments at JAPAN POST INVESTMENT CORPORATION.

The forum also featured leading executives from Advantage Partners, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, ENEOS Corporation, Newton Investment Partners, Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley, Sony, EQT Partners, Kirin Holdings and IBM Consulting Japan speaking on a number of well-researched topics including how much M&A activity will we see and what are the factors in Japan’s favour, will the rise in carve-out transactions remain and how can you access deals, the driving forces for cross-border activity, including the hotspots in the Japanese market, the effects of new regulations on Japanese dealmaking and activist investing, the strategies are top Japanese corporates using to invest in technology innovations, the most active sectors of Japan's mid-market M&A deal, and the sectors, prefectures, and transaction sizes private equity funds have been focusing on.
