Travers Smith
During the judging period, the Travers Smith fund formation team advised on mandates from leading UK, European and Global private equity funds, from venture through to growth, mid-market and larger buyout firms. The team acted as lead counsel for the structuring and raising of funds both for long-standing clients and winning and building new relationships, despite the ongoing challenges of working remotely.
Reflecting the intensity of work across the industry, Travers Smith advised on a record number of new fundraises for the team. Also, we have been closely involved in the reshaping of the market with new liquidity options being available to private equity funds, from LP tender offers, to fund recaps, preferred equity transactions and NAV-based lending.
The legal services we provide go beyond fund formation to encompass all areas of legal advice for private funds. For example, we are at the forefront advising multi-strategy global fund managers on the securities law implications of marketing interests in private equity funds to investors (institutional and retail) in key European investment markets, which has been significantly impacted by Brexit. Our fund finance team has also been very active in the market, advising multiple lenders and borrowers.
