Asante Capital

2021 has been an exciting albeit abnormal year for Asante with fundraising strategies further adapted to the new virtual world. Yet amidst change (including the most congested fundraising market ever experienced), we were able to find and implement processes and strategies that resulted in minimal business disruption and ensured continued growth as a firm.

We partnered successfully with our GP clients to complete 28 fund closes (19 interim and 9 final) and a range of secondary transactions and direct deals across the Group, advising on fundraisings totalling over $24.2Bn.

We partnered with 22 new GPs across the Group, 7 of which were European and 7 of which were returning group clients.

We have continued to expand our infrastructure, with our overall global headcount increasing to 57, 37 of whom are based in London with the remainder split between New York and Hong Kong. We have also devoted time during 2021 to establishing an office in Munich in response to Brexit and we continue to maintain a robust summer internship program in both London and New York, with a view to cultivating strong, diverse young talent as we continue to grow the firm.

Campbell Lutyens

The 12 months to June 2022 represented another excellent year for Campbell Lutyens (“CL”), with the firm advising on 30 primary funds and closing in excess of €12.5 billion. In European private equity, CL continued to build on the success of previous years, working with a diverse pool of managers from across the region including:

  • The Pollen Street Capital IV fundraise, which reached its hard cap of £700m and more than £1bn in total including £150m in co-investment capital and £185m for a dedicated top-up fund. In the process, they successfully diversified their LP base to a global group of investors including some of the largest pension funds, sovereign wealth funds and insurance companies in the world.
  • The Naxicap II fundraise, which reached its hard cap of €856 million, securing commitments from a diverse group of more than 25 international investors, including pension funds, insurance companies and sovereign wealth funds, and helping to diversify the LP base geographically, including into Asia.

CL also further expanded its sustainable investment advisory work with ~€10.1 billion of mandates under advisement. The firm also expanded its specialist sustainability focused team to >20 professionals. CL published a report investigating the rise of specialist climate strategies, which was underpinned by CL's mapping of over 300 funds within the sustainability space. The report was featured in New Private Markets and Campbell Lutyens received over 100 inbounds.

Rede Partners

This year Rede Partners raised a record €48.4bn in aggregate across 28 funds holding final and interim closes, including €11.4bn of ‘new’ money.

Twelve funds held final closes, including the largest European healthcare buyout fund raised to date (GHO, €2bn), the largest European Impact fund to date (Summa Equity, €2.3bn), a first-time fund (Ashgrove, €300m), and three new platform extensions (for Nordic Capital, TCV and Verdane). Across these 12 funds, 31% of capital was raised from new investors. Our Transactions team also raised a total of €4.1bn across a broad spectrum of GP-led transactions and innovative fund financings.

We expanded our team to over 100, opening our third office in Hong Kong. Our dedicated Impact team continued to build momentum, closing three funds for Summa, Circularity Capital and Verdane and launching three further raises.

Across the market, decision makers increasingly rely on our industry barometer, the Rede Liquidity Index, now widely recognised as a leading indicator of fundraising sentiment. We were also delighted to welcome over 600 participants to our second RedeConnect virtual conference in April, broadcasting original webinar content, panel discussions and exclusive presentations by Rede GPs to over 200 LPs at small group ‘roundtable’ meetings.
